About the artists featured on the Whimsical Art Trail:
Nancy Wiley: Doll artist Nancy Wiley has been plying her craft for 20 years. She describes her work as heavily painted doll sculptures: “I first sculpt a figure out of clay, building up from a wire armature. Then when the sculpture is finished, I add fabric, if it needs it, and then paint the whole thing as if it were a canvas-the clothes, everything. I paint in the shadows and highlights.” Wiley’s work has appeared in The New York Times, In Style, and on the cover of George magazine (John Kennedy Jr. hired her to costume Demi Moore as one of Nancy’s dolls). Wiley’s new book,Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, combines the artist’s love of dolls and storytelling to create a uniquely illustrated version of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale. Wiley’s work can be viewed atwww.nancywiley.com.
